Waitaki District Council Newsletter - Issue 120 | 23 September 2022

On Monday 26 September New Zealand will hold a one-off Public Holiday called Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Day to mark the passing of her Majesty.

Waitaki District Council, Ōamaru Opera House, Waitaki District Libraries, and the Waitaki Aquatic Centre will all be closed on this day.

Waitaki Museum & Archive will be open 10.00am-12.30pm and Forrester Gallery will be open1.30pm-4pm on this day. Regular services will resume on Tuesday 27 September.

Special voting is still open – What Makes You Tick Waitaki?

If you are enrolled and have received your papers in the mail, ensure you post these by Tuesday 4 October 2022 to ensure they get to election HQ in time to be counted. If you miss this date, you can also drop your votes in one of the orange Vote 2022 bins.

Find out where to cast a special vote, where the Waitaki Post boxes are and when the Election Officer will be visiting The Oamaru Farmers Market, Waihemo Service Centre, Omarama Community Hall, Otematata and Kurow at the link below.

Waitaki Memorial Service for Queen Elizabeth 

A Waitaki Memorial Service for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be held at the Oamaru Opera House Auditorium on Saturday 24 September.

Doors open at 9am for 9.30am Service. All welcome.

We are also livestreaming the event if you cannot make it in person.

Improvements to Kurow Boat Ramp and Oteamata Domain

At this weeks Council meeting, Council agreed recommendations from the Ahuriri Community Board which includes a grant to extend the Kurow Boat Ramp and support to the Otematata Residents Association to carry out the next phase of improvements to the Otematata Domain.

Uplifting Waitaki with a New Economic Development Strategy

Waitaki has a new, ambitious strategy for the development of the economy. Council has agreed to adopt the Uplifting Waitaki: Hāpaitia te Waitaki Economic Development Strategy.

Supported by Polis consulting Group (Polis) and co-designed with Te Rūnanga o Moeraki and the local business community the Strategy sets a path to grow Waitaki’s economy by more than 8% above projected growth in the next 10 years.
